With a catwalk packed with stars, including Serena Williams, Cindy Crawford, Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell and the Hadid sisters…
This season, Off-White and its recently appointed creative team, New Guards Group, delivered a collection that not only honors the late, great designer Virgil Abloh, but also builds upon it. His legacy for innovation. With a runway that brought together many stars, including Serena Williams, Cindy Crawford, Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell and the Hadid sisters, the show was a large-scale production that packed layers of Abloh time as brand leadership. With giant chandeliers dotting the catwalks of the fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2020 show, which saw cars dotted the stage in a similar fashion, it not only recognized the past. but also look to the future.
The 84-design collection that includes many of Off-White’s staples has been taken to new, larger, and more innovative heights. For example, oversized clothing is the mainstay of the show, with some pieces of clothing presented in both vintage and contemporary prints. At the same time, Abloh’s famous slogans appear throughout the collection. One such look saw a model wearing a small black sequined dress with the words “Little Black Dress” running down the side. Other models carried white flags emblazoned with the phrase “Question Everything”.
The tie dye sets have been refreshed and epitomize Abloh’s effortless creativity. One such set includes a green and lilac bodycon tie dye dress paired with leggings and a puffy cropped shirt. Cut out is also a welcome addition and focuses on the trend. A number of oversized knit sweaters with large diamond holes went down the runway and provided an interesting layering feel, as they almost completely revealed the clothing underneath.
The show closed with a series of Abloh’s famous Off-White tulle dresses. Paired with simple t-shirts and sweatshirts or layered underneath boxed shirts, they epitomize the streetwear innovation that the Off-White brand has always been famous for. . Furthermore, they take viewers back to past Off-White collections and remind us of Abloh’s fun and exciting style.
When Abloh passed away just a few months ago in November 2021, the fashion industry lost one of its most important creators. In addition, the fashion industry has lost an artist who is not afraid of the core and is not afraid of experimentation. Off-White’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection not only showcases some of Abloh’s most famous and beloved styles, but also reminds us of the legacy he has given us.
Exaggerated tulle gowns, haute couture and tagline outfits are not only his signature style, but also a symbol of his relentless creativity and commitment to events. Creative, thought-provoking performances every season. Now, New Guards Group not only honors Abloh’s legacy through design, but also through his distinctive and unique legacy of experimenting with the new.
